This page, lacking almost any detailed account of the time period covered, shows some of the best pictures and video clips from the weekend of September 24 and 25, 1999.

Friday evening, the 24th, I went to the stock car races with my old buddy Russ Stevens. When I showed up at his house in my scout, I made the mistake of asking him to hurry so I could assuage my hunger with a race track hamburger. He insisted I take a bowl of the chili they had just finished at his house while he drive the scout. Other than driving like and old man, which he isn't quite yet he did OK until the lowering sun made it difficult for him due to the lack of working instrument lights, so I had him pull over and we swapped seats.

Saturday afternoon we all went out to "Heritage Days" an annual (this was the 20th year) sort of festival that celebrates our national heritage. There are many booths (most of which are, unsurprisingly I suppose, selling stuff) containing items from the past such as hand made candles or the highly recommended kettle-fried potato chips. Those showing up in period garb (as all associated with the event are required to be) get in free. We had to pay the $3 each, but Isaiah was free. No, he wasn't in pioneer swaddling clothes- admission was free for those under 2.

There's nothing like a stock car race.
