November 1, 1999 - On The Road Again

Whether I like it or not, I am (as the title of this page might suggest) on the road again. Yes, although I am no longer officially part of the field service department of my company, I am fullfilling that job description. Long time readers may remember the editions from just about a year ago that were posted from Altus, Ok. I was in Altus to commission a system of the same type I am in Spokane, Washington to commission. I am the only person in my company (probably the only person in the U.S.A.) that knows how to commission one of these projectors.

For the past couple of weeks or so that I knew I would be headed here now, I have been thinking that it might not be a totally negative experience. I used to like to travel- to see new places. I'm not so sure I actually feel that way about this trip anymore, though. Don't get me wrong I still like to travel, but now I like to travel with my family.

Leaving my wife to go on trips about twice a month was something neither of us liked, but we had learned to adjust to it. it's been a long time since I've had to leave my wife. Now, though, I'm not just leaving my wife; I've got a seven month old son who is the light of my life at home wondering "Where's that one dude with the beard? I like him..." There was a big lump in my throat as I kissed his sleeping head at the airport today. I'm sure going to miss him. Even when he is squalling at the top of his lungs (which is usually just as some TV show I want to watch it starting) just looking at him can bring a smile to my face and I am counting the days until I can hold him again

I'm not even there yet and I'm ready to go home!
(I typed this during a layover in Salt Lake City that was an hour longer than it was supposed to be...)
